This Week I... Got Married!


I've kept pretty quiet about the whole getting married thing here on the blog. But it's true, Charles and I got married just yesterday. We both wanted a small and simple wedding, so that's what we did. Eight guests, a simple ceremony, a lovely lunch for 10 people at one big table, a cake made by my sister-in-law, and all in a delightful location in the heart of Melbourne. We are back home today, rather than on a honeymoon somewhere, as despite searching and searching, we didn't find a honeymoon that was appropriate right now and that appealed to us. And then we realised we were only looking at doing it because that's just 'what you do'. So, as with the rest of our wedding, we decided to suit ourselves and do things our way. 

We're very excited and happy to have taken this step and made this commitment to each other. We had our wedding day exactly as we wanted to, we got to share it with our close family and we didn't stretch the finances too far in the process. I'll share some more details about how we celebrated our simple wedding in another post to come, but for now, I'm off to enjoy being a newlywed.

    congratulations! my husband and i put off getting married for so long because my mother and my older sister kept getting so involved and making it THEIR wedding not mine. a couple years ago we finally tied the knot. i wanted really small pizza party wedding..and well..it didn't turn out that way. my mom ended up taking it over entirely. but i still did have an ice cream truck driving around the grounds delivering any sort of ice cream treats guest wanted..a dunking booth..bouncy pillow...so i got some of my things too!

      Oh wow, that would be kinda hard to deal with. We were lucky in that our families were either very involved in their own stuff, and/or not the wedding organising type. There may have been a little disappointment at the small number of guests invited, but we had the option of a room that holds 8 guests or 55 guests... It was a no brainer for us.
      An ice cream truck sounds fun! So does a dunking booth and a bouncy pillow!

    yay! so awesome! congrats! my hubs and i had a pretty low key wedding too. we knew what we wanted, but in the planning got caught up in the 'what we are supposed to do', and had to stop ourselves and remember that this day was FOR US. we had pie instead of a cake, we didn't have any groomsmen or bridesmaids, we walked down the 'aisle' together, i wore a fluff ball of a party dress and he wore jeans. wishing you well!

      Thank you! Yeah we absolutely had to keep reminding ourselves that this was our day, and not about anyone else. We had no bridesmaids or groomsmen either, and we walked into the room together, I wouldn't even call it walking down the aisle. Your wedding sounds like it was fun!
