Studying

I'm back into my studies again, after having a break when William was born. I am very happy that this is what I'm doing with myself, rather than returning to work out of the house. My course is online, so apart from having to go into our nearest library to sit my exams, I can study from home. There will be a point at which I need to do hands-on study in some later units, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. William will be older then, and who knows what our circumstances might be.

For the moment, I am able to read my course materials mostly on the macbook, while William is asleep in my arms. This works for me. It means I don't have to lock in specific study times, as he is always going to be asleep at some point during the day. I just need to make sure I don't get distracted with wanderings in blog-land, but I'm getting better at it. I hope my study method is more efficient than it used to be. It has to be, so I'm sure that it is. If I read it once, it has to stay in my head.

The most important thing for me is to be here for William, to cuddle and nurture him, to feed and clean and play with him. So I'm very, very happy that I can combine doing just that, with also continuing on my path towards a [different] future profession. I know the specifics of how we do this will change and evolve, and no doubt be a continuing process of adjustment, but for now, we have found a balance. Maybe next week it will be different! I just have to go with the flow and trust that this is the right path.

  1. What are you studying?
I am studying online too, so I can continue to work, develop my block and raise a family at the same time.
It can be hard but it is well worth the effort.

    1. I'm studying naturopathy. It is challenging at times, I always thought I had self discipline but I don't seem to have as much as I thought! Online definitely makes it more flexible though.

  2. Naturopathy is a complicated field, congratulations on your choice and on your dedication.
I trained to diploma level as a clinical herbalist by distance education, and that was a long journey.
Keep at it and you will succeed. I make myself a time in every day that is just mine, so I can do a little bit of study at least.
