Loving Lately

A little round up of things I'm loving these autumn days.

Delicious finds from the farmers market. Perfect pears all in a row, an abundance of nashi pears, interesting plants to find a new home in our garden. Beautiful fresh rhubarb and a jar of fig chutney from the Street Harvest. Coriander seeds drying in the kitchen, with the strong aroma of the coriander plant filling the kitchen.

The afternoon light in autumn. Soft, warming, gentle afternoon sun, such a contrast to the harsh sun of summer. Delightful afternoons spent potting in the garden, trying to protect broccoli and spinach seedlings from the grabbing hands of a curious little boy. Pulling up the potato plants and happily finding some good eating potatoes buried beneath. 

Waking up to a rainy day. A blissful surprise, having grown so used to expecting rain and then… nothing. Watching the garden spring to life with the rain, leaves and branches reaching up tall to the sky, roots filled up with life-giving water. An afternoon walk with my boy and the dogs, ground wet underfoot, the smell of rain in the air.

Preparing for a first birthday celebration. Little details to make the day just right. Finding new ways to bring a smile and a giggle to an almost-one-year-old's face. Getting my old bike set up with a baby seat, hoping he will love going for rides. Just wanting to make this little boy happy. Shopping for the second pair of shoes, the first now outgrown.

Making a crochet cat blanket, promised to said cat a long time ago. Slow progress but progress nonetheless. Finding a delightful bunch of yarns on sale at the shop in town, and being unable to resist the temptation to bring them home with me. Wondering now what to make with them. A winter project, perhaps. 

Cups of tea and popcorn shared with my love. Our treat for when little one is asleep. Catching up on some blog reading [this and this in particular]. Reading a book from the library, picked by my very unscientific method of choosing the book closest to the counter at the library, with the most interesting cover. You win some, you lose some. This one is a winner.
