Snippets of Here

Some snaps taken during our afternoon outside adventures. You know, for a very long time, I considered changing the name of this blog, as I felt it no longer represented where I was in life. And now, I find myself living in a place where the name is more fitting than ever. Anyway. I think you will be able to see from these images that we definitely have our work cut out for us, here in this place.

This little old house needs a good wash and a tidy up. We're in the process of doing so many things, sometimes it feels like we're getting absolutely nowhere. But we are, just very slowly. We pulled up a couple of terribly overgrown bushes growing near the white posts here, but with chickens roaming around every day (we still need to build a permanent enclosed chook run), their favourite place to have a dust bath is right where we pulled up bushes. Hello, dust and dirt kicked up, repeatedly. I've given up trying to sweep it, for now. Note the giant mound of plant, also in need of some chopping, and the great big olive tree behind William. That one stays.

Honeysuckle flowers blooming. Pretty bright blooms, but the bush itself may have limited days left… We shall see. At the very least it will get a hefty chop back. There is too much vegetation growing close to the house, one of our many jobs is to clear it all out so the place can breathe a bit.

The orchid. Currently there are five varieties of apple tree growing here. We'll plant more fruit trees, but it won't be until next season now. It will be good to watch it over the growing season and see how it all comes together. To the right is an old cubby house, but it's a bit too rustic for our liking and will be pulled down.

The vegie garden area. Completely overgrown, but there are four vegie garden beds buried here, with reasonable soil in them too. Also the wood pile in the old water tank and some rustic compost bays alongside. And a drum. There are a bunch of old drums about the place (three to be exact). The paddock sits beyond the tree line here; the trees sort of make up a rough house block.

Just some open space. Not quite sure what this might end up being/doing, and I actually quite like just having open space just for the sake of it.

William checking for eggs. This boy amazes me with how he has taken to looking after the chickens. His chickens, really. He collects the eggs every day, and carefully carries them inside so we can put them in the fridge. In the afternoon, he always remembers to get the chook bucket full of scraps (uneaten toddler food, mostly). He fills up the nesting box with straw, and attempts to fill their water. And feeds them handful after handful of layer pellets. Then chases them around with arms outstretched, trying to catch them. So sweet to watch it all unfold.

Snippets of here. So much work to be done, but we knew that when we decided to take it on. It's a nice place to be. We've been here for four weeks now but it feels a bit like we've always been here.
