William, doing the watering. He loves this job (what kid wouldn't) and takes it very seriously. He's quite proud of the potato patch he has been lovingly watering since we planted months ago, and in the process, I guess he's learning about growing food. He turns from his chair at the dining table to point out the window at the potato's growing: 'dato, dato'.

ReplyDeleteIt is so exciting when they start with a few words, it is important to validate what he is trying to tell you, sometimes they will repeat and repeat until they get validation that you have understood.....so "yes , that is where the potatoes are growing, outside" will get you a big smile. New words will often start with the wrong, but easy letter to say, gog instead of dog, fruck instead of truck, frayra is trailer, tr is quite difficult, cr is another hard one ,there were many "c,r, crocodile" practices, but all I got back was "c,r, frocodile ! " it took weeks, maybe he thought it was some kind of funny game. You have to listen very carefully, think about the context, ask him to point etc. as starting with the wrong letter makes understanding hard work, but if you talk him through his day, when he finally gets his teeth, tongue, cheeks and lips all working together, his vocabulary will be amazing, as they understand waaaaaay more than they can talk about.....kids are soooo exciting to be around, they soak up learning like sponges.

The words are coming thick and fast, he's amazing! Fridge, trail (trailer), Harm (Harmony horse), car, ap (apple), nanion (onion), garic (garlic), the list goes on. Shadow, quack quack, nines (nectarines). He's starting to string a few together even. Gosh they change fast don't they.
